Morning Teleportation [CYC]

A bunch of firsts for me at this Love the Captive showing of Morning Teleportation, Animal Eyes, Achievement House and Deleón. I did not get there in time for Achievement House or Deleón, but the other two bands put on a great performance.

This was my first show at CYC in Fresno’s Chinatown. It’s a small place, but works for shows like this. The lighting is not great, so it does make it a little more difficult for photography.

This was the first time I have seen a head banging accordion player who was with Animal Eyes. I was sore just watching him; his red hair was all over the place.

This was also the first time I have seen a band start without their drummer. Morning Teleportation was trying to start quickly because the show was running behind, so the guitarist and keyboarder began playing without looking back to see if the drummer was there. When it was his turn to jump in, everyone was a little surprised they heard no drums. Their missing drummer was soon found after some laughs and a short wait, and they ended up putting on an awesome show.

Strange Vine & We Barbarians [Audies]

Fun night at Audie’s Olympic with some really good bands. Three bands, to be exact, with a total of seven band members combined. Small amount of musicians, but the place was packed with big amounts of incredible sound. Kicking it off was a two-member band called ANR from Florida. Next, We Barbarians from Long Beach who even got a little stage diving going at the end of their set. Finally, local band, Strange Vine, who ended the show with an encore. Great night of music in Fresno!

AVI Buffalo [Fulton 55]

Monday night concert at Fulton 55 that had a really good crowd for a Monday night show. Local band Achievement House kicked it off with a solid set. Wild Pack of Canaries was next and the lead singer was all over the place. The guy did not sit still except for the photo below where he is actually sitting on the stage playing. Finally, the headliner, AVI Buffalo started their set rocking football PJs and a howling wolf t-shirt. Interesting night of music at Fulton 55.

Morning Teleportation [Fulton 55]

Another talent-filled show at Fulton 55. My good friend Johnny Q, of Love the Captive fame, booked a great line up for the venue. The first band to perform was a Fresno native called Local Honey. They are usually an instrumental band, but this was their first show with a lead singer which added a nice lyrical component to their orchestral-alternative sound. The headliner was Morning Teleportation based out of Portland OR. The band was discovered by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and you can hear his influence in their sound. These guys could play, and play they did, late into the night. They rocked the place until almost 1:30, good times!

Brother [Fulton 55]

We had some chaps come all the way from merry old England to play at Fulton 55. Brother, who are from the UK, played with Fierce Creatures thanks to the Fresno Beehive and Sound-N-Vision Foundation bringing them over. This was actually their first time on the west coast of the US and they said Fulton 55 was nicer than any club its size in London! How awesome is that… we have a better venue than all of London! FUSE Fest 2010 [Downtown Fresno]

The Fresno Urban Sound Experience or FUSE Fest is what downtown Fresno could be. A diverse community hanging out at numerous venues, listening to music, dancing, and grabbing food and drinks with friends. FUSE is put on by the good people of Creative Fresno. The festival is in its third year and had over 30 bands and DJs performing throughout the night. I got there a little late but there were many other people documenting the event too. Hopefully more events like this will assist in the revival of downtown Fresno.

Little Dragon/Jungkshen [Encore]

Little Dragon was back in Fresno for an encore performance to their sold out show a few months ago. They are on tour promoting their new CD – Machine Dreams. This time they had local band Jungkshen opening for them. Audie’s was rocking again to the Little Dragon sound with a huge crowd dancing to every song. Pics from both bands are below and thanks to the promotion team of Love the Captive for bringing another great act to Fresno.

My buddy Johnny Q told me about this show at the dredg show. I had not heard of Little Dragon before, but after listening to them a little bit this past week, I am realizing this is going to be a cool show. It also seems like the show is getting some nice buzz from the Fresno blogs. You can even win tickets over at the Beehive.
