Thanks to Love the Captive, I had the privilege to photograph a very intimate show at the Starline featuring performers William Fitzsimmons and Denison Witmer. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a show at the Starline, so it was good to be back. The room was oddly silent as I walked in except for the one person on stage. What was great about this show was that the atmosphere encouraged a lot of performer-fan interaction and conversation between songs. As Witmer got to know the crowd, he could not believe that he had found a pocket of fellow Mennonites in Fresno, CA. Fitzsimmons joked about his appreciation of people who continue to come out and enjoy his “very depressing songs”. Both played incredibly personal sets, and the show ended with Fitzsimmons alone beckoning everyone closer to the stage for an unplugged finale.
